A balanced band will be chosen from all applicants according to instrumentation and ability based n the director recommendation. There are no auditions.

In 2013, 76% of those who applied were selected. In 2017 100% of scouts who applied were accepted.

Acceptance Procedure -  Everyone who applies will be  conditionally accepted into the band with the understanding that the Jamboree Band will be chosen from all conditional applicants according to instrumentation and ability starting in late Spring 2016. 

If I am not selected -  Unfortunately, evevyone who applies cannot be chosen to be in the band. If you are not selected, you may choose your second or third staff choice, or become a free agent or you may request a full refund.

OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION

REPORT DATES the band will report on Saturday July 15 (travel day) with 1st meeting/rehearsal on Sunday July 16.  The Jamboree begins on July 19. The Jamboree band will depart with all other staff on Friday July 28  beginning at noon. There is some flexibility if needed.

Ability - Members of the Jamboree Band will need to play at least at an average high school band level. 

Average Age  - The average age of a band member in 2013 was 17.5 not counting directors. Youth staff encompasses ages 16 - 25.

Registered Scout - In order to participate, you must be a registered scout (venture, explorer, scouter, college reserve, etc.).

Director Recomendation - In order to help select the band, a recommendation is needed. This can be completed by your band director or private teacher. Or, if you are in college or an older scout, you may complete this yourself.  see Apply, #2

Instrument - With certain exceptions, you must bring your own instrument. Marching drums will be supplied. Keyboard and amps will also be supplied.

Music - Some music will be sent to you several months in advance. More will be distributed at the Jamboree.  You can check out the repertoire we played in 2013 here. 

Jamboree Band Leadership - The Band Director is George Pinchock. See Director Updates. At this time, the Director Staff is full. 

Rehearsal and Gigs - There will be several days of rehearsals. When the scouts arrive, the gigs begin.

Getting around the Summit - Travel by foot is the way to get around the Jamboree. Get in Shape!  The band will have use of a vehicle to transport instruments when needed.  

Experience the Jamboree  - Scouts will have ample time off to experience other parts of the Jamboree. 2013 Jamboree Photos

Uniform - Your regular class A uniform will be the band’s regular Class A uniform with the official Jamboree neckerchief and hat. No special patches required. You will want to affix a Jamboree staff pocket patch. Our Class B uniform will be the band t-shirt, official Jamboree hat, and scout shorts with socks. As the Class B shirt will be our day uniform you will need multiple Band Class B shirts.   You will be given an official  Jamboree staff neckerchief, staff hat and staff patch at checkin when you arrive at the Jamboree.

Band Patch and Band T-shirts - A  band t-shirt and band patch will be available several months before the Jamboree.

About the 2013 Jamboree Staff Band - Directors and scouts were from 32 states. Ages ranged from 16 - 25 for the youth staff and 26 - 62 for the adult staff.  Chances for selection are good as 75% of the scouts who applied were selected.

Organization - Organizationally, the Jamboree Band is attached to the Stadium Experience Team (SET). 

Participant and Staff -  It is not possible to be in the staff band and be a Jamboree participant with your Council.

Cost - For youth staff ages 16 - 25, the cost is $425. All meals and housing while at the Jamboree are covered.   In addition to the Jamboree staff fee an additional cost of around $40 will be required for band specific items.

Travel To and From the Jamboree - Travel to and from the Jamboree is the responsibility of each scout. See Director Updates for report and dismissal dates. Travel Information is available CLICK HERE

Visiting the Jamboree -  Visitor passes will be available for parents, friends and scouters. Visit the Jamboree website.

2019 World Jamboree at the Summit - There is the possibility that there will be a staff band for the 2019 World Jamboree at the Summit. Please email George Pinchock if you are interested in being a part of this group and we’ll put your name on a mailing list.  George.Pinchock@villnaova.edu

2021 National Jamboree Band - The 2021 Jamboree band will begin forming approximately 30 months prior to the Jamboree around January 2019. To have your name put on a mailing list please email the director George.Pinchock@  villanova.edu.
